October 22, 2012

Morning out my apartment window
Hey Y'all,

How are you all doing?  This week has been really busy and we were able to get a lot done.  On Wednesday morning we took a train down to Drammen and drove with the Drammen elders to Tønsberg for their district meeting.  Every time were in Tønsberg its become a tradition to go to McDonald's so we went there for lunch and I got myself a Big Mac.  After lunch we drove back to Drammen and went on splits with the Drammen elders.  I was with Elder Chapman from England and we had a blast together.  We went and hit the streets and had a ton of success.  In two short hours we taught ten people, received two appointments and received five numbers.  It was fantastic!

On Thursday we went to the state church in downtown Oslo in support of the Christians in Egypt, Iraq, and Syria.  It was a really nice meeting and I contemplated some of the stuff people go through because of their faith.  After, we all marched down Carl Johannes Gate (the main street) with torches in support of these Christians.  It was a lot of fun, despite the pouring rain.  We were invited by our investigator.  He is the one that was in the newspaper article with us.  We taught him after the meeting on Thursday night and it went really well. We taught him the first two principles in the plan of salvation and boy did he have questions.  Luckily we had planned well and we had answers.  He is one of those people that you have to answer everything with the Bible.  In the end it went really well and he had a lot to think about.  He is a little worried to find out if its true because he knows that it will change his life.  It's a good thing that the gospel is worth it ha ha.

I attended my first stake conference in Norway on Sunday.  It went really well and the focus was about having a good relationship with your spouse.  I definitely wrote down a few pointers for my future ha ha.    Something kind of funny happened yesterday while contacting.  Elder T and I were blitzing it meaning that we split up and started contacting people, obviously were still within sight and sound of each other.  I walked past a girl that was looking at me and then decided that if someone is looking at me I got to contact them.  As I started talking with her she kept giggling here and there.  I invited her to family home evening for the YSA considering that she is a 18 year old Norwegian girl.  I got her number and as I was shaking her hand good bye she went in for a kiss or at least a cheek rub ha ha.  Don't worry I had my guard up and my heart locked so I took step back as she took a step forward.  I guess will see if she comes to family home evening tonight.

I heard a crazy statistic I thought I would share with you all.  They did a poll and found out that 50% of the Norwegian population are atheist which is one of the highest percentages in the world.  If anyone says why are you in Norway it is a Christian land, I will pull out that statistic.

I had an amazing spiritual experience happen to me this week.  On Tuesday morning i took the challenge from Elder Ballard i think who said at general conference to pray for someone in need of help.  I did that and my prayer was answered a short hour later on our way to district meeting.  We got in the elevator and we were stopped by the floor below us.  It was an older lady with tons of boxes and sacks.  She looked extremely overwhelmed and I asked if we could help.  You should have seen the look on her face.  She was so grateful and i knew we had answered her prayers by being an instrument in the Lords hands.  I know prayer really does work and that the Lord is aware of all of us.  I love you all and I look forward to next week when I from you all again.  Have a great week!

Eldste Godfrey
