April 23, 2012

Hei Hei,

How goes it with the family this week?  I had an incredible weekend that i will never forget.  History was made in Norway when they set up the second stake this weekend.  It has been 35 years since the first stake of Norway was established.  The Saints gathered from all over Norway for this historical event.  It was absolutely incredible and the spirit among these faithful Saints was amazing.

The week started out pretty good but just got better and better.  We picked up an old investigator from Ethiopia this last week.  He took us to a cafè and bought us hot chocolate and coke ha ha.  He is a really nice guy who has lived in some pretty crazy places.  He was born in Ethiopia and has lived in Sudan and Libya before coming to Norway.  He is christian and remembers going to church when he was younger.

On Thursday night we took a train into Tønsberg to sleep there for the night before the Mission Conference the next day.  The Kristiansand and Arendal Elders drove four hours that day to get to Tønsberg as well... so there was 8 of us that stayed the night in Tønsberg.  We had a great time together and we got up at 4:00am the next morning to prepare for the mission conference in Rommerike that started at 9:30am.  Its about a two hour drive from Tønsberg.  At the mission conference there was going to be four presentations from the district leaders and i was asked to give a presentation on the Doctrine of Christ.  I spent a good amount of time preparing for this since it was going to be in front of all the missionaries in the mission ha ha.  We got word a day before the conference that a general authority was going to be there so because of that they canceled our presentations which was fine with me ha ha.  I'm very grateful that i had the opportunity to really study the Doctrine of Christ though.  Elder Teixeira from the seventy came to our mission.  It was amazing the mission conference was a blast.  It started at 9:30am and we didn't leave Rommerike until 9:00pm.  It was good to see all the missionaries again and to see all of my sons and daughters in the mission ha ha.

On Friday night after the conference we just had five us that slept over in Tønsberg.  On Saturday we had a little time, before the leadership training meeting in Rommerike for all of the members, so we had a BBQ on the beach.  We bought burgers and chips ha ha.  It was a lot of fun!  At the conference the chapel was packed and didn't have enough room for everyone.  It was so cool to see all the members from Kristiansand again.  I miss that area a lot!  The whole branch was there for the most part so i was able to talk with all of them.  I talked to Rolf from Kristiansand who has a son Benjamin Torjessen who is serving a mission in Norway right now.  He said that he has read some of my blog ha ha.  At the Saturday night meeting Elder Kopischke and Elder Teixeira from the seventy were there.

We slept in Tønsberg again and woke up really early again on Sunday for the big conference in Oslo.  The church rented a big hall from one of the Government buildings.  It held about 1300 people and it was filled up easy.  It was amazing to see the all the Saints gather.  The spirit was so strong at the meeting on Sunday.  They set up the second stake in Norway.  I've never seen the members so proud to be members of the true church.  We had a long day after the meeting as we waited at the institute center in Oslo while all of the cars were being used to take people to the airport.  We eventually got back to Skien last night at about 9:30pm.

Other: I can't believe my Søster is getting married!  That is awesome!  I'll be thinking a lot about you guys this week.  I hope everything goes well and be sure to send me tons of pictures and a DVD.  I'm pretty sure i will be moving so don't send any packages until i get to my new area.  Transfers don't get over until May 16 so you have a little while.  I will probably be sending you all a package in the next couple of weeks.  I hope Mitt can take it and i hope the Jazz can make it to the play-offs.  I'm looking forward to seeing some pictures of the house soon and that is way cool that Brandon is going to Boston.

I wanted to share with you all an experience that happened to me this morning.  I decided i would devote a study on how i can overcome a problem.  I knelt down in prayer pleading with the Lord that i would be led by the spirit during my personal study.  I started reading in the Book of Mormon, then the Bible and then i finished off in Preach my Gospel.  Everything i read applied to my question.  I wrote downs lists of things i can do better.  I know that the Lord was leading me through my study this morning and that God really does answer prayers.  I love you all and have a great week with the wedding and everything else that is going on.

P.S. I don't need any white shirts and i actually haven't worn like half of my white shirts so i'm good on that ha ha.  I do need a pair of shoes though.  The rockports are nice but i think the echos last longer.  Thanks!
