July 2, 2012
Hei Hei Familie,
How y'all doin in Kaysville... i guess i should say Fruit Heights? All the pictures you sent last week looked incredible. I'm excited to see more next week! This week has been really busy and the next couple of weeks before transfers are going to be even more busy.
On Tuesday we went down to Drammen for their District Meeting. Eldste Johnson and I presented a little presentation about goals and giving the baptismal commitment to our investigators. It was fun to be with all of the Elders in Drammen. When we got back to Oslo we literally had the busiest day I've had on my mission. We had appointments lined up for the rest of the night. All of our appointments were at the Youth Center in downtown Oslo. We had a little waiting room with all the people that we had set up appointments with. It was pretty cool! When we were done with one appointment we would walk back in the main room and meet with the next investigator that had been waiting. We had a great time teaching all of those people and the Lord really blessed us that day.
Our zone was really struggling for awhile but now it is looking really good . It has been exciting to see things turn around and July could be our best month for baptisms this year. F a girl from China got baptized this Saturday. The sisters have been teaching her and she is great! She got baptized in a lake and it was beautiful. We went to the lake early Saturday morning before Zone Leader Council but we had to go before the baptism started. It was a beautiful setting and I'll send some pictures.
The Oslo ward has experienced a lot of growth over the last month and it has been amazing to see. We have had four baptisms now and there will be another baptism this Saturday. He has a very strong faith in Christ and we have been teaching him in the language class. The sisters met him on the street a few weeks ago and they set up appointment with him that they couldn't go to so we met with him and got a baptismal date with him. A received the priesthood on Sunday and he was way excited. He will be passing the sacrament next week for his first time.
We didn't have P-day on Monday so we took it on Wednesday and went to a bunch of museums and it was awesome. It worked out perfect because all of the museums are closed on Mondays. We bought a pass for like $50 for a 24hr pass to all the museums so went to as many as we could. We went to the Maritime Museum, The Polar ship Fram Museum, Kon-Tika Museum, Norwegian museum of cultural history, and the Viking ship Museum. We took the entire day all the way up to 6:00pm. I was able to learn a lot and i really enjoyed the museum's. I didn't think i was going to like going to museum's but it was a lot better than i expected. You can learn a lot from going to museum's and now I'm looking forward to going to more here in Norway and after my mission. The Kon-Tika museum basically proved that the South Pacific people came from the Lamanites.
On Wednesday night after the museum's we had dinner with John (member) and Adolf (recent convert). John is from India and made us Indian food. It was really good and they taught us how to eat with our hands. It was intense! I used my hands the whole time and i couldn't believe how hot Indian food is. My mouth was burning and then on top of that they gave me this really hot pepper to eat. I obviously couldn't say no to the challenge of eating the pepper so i did ha ha.
On Saturday we were back in Sandvika for Zone Leader Council with the new mission President. President Evans and his wife is a great man and I'm going to learn a lot from both of them. They both have a very strong spirit with them and they are really going to focus on our needs and how we can become the men that the Lord wants on the mission and after. I will have a little less than a year with him and I'm looking forward to learning a lot from him. That is awesome if you go to President Johansens homecoming. I have so much respect for that man and i would love you guys to meet him. The more i learn about him the more respect i gain!
We had a good day on Sunday and after church we got a big rain storm... i even heard thunder which is not common in Norway for some reason. That night we went out contacting in this new area of Oslo. It was super nice and super modern! It was on the shoreline as well. We saw some condos for sale and the prices were outrageous. A three bedroom condo was about $6million USD and a one bedroom condo was about $2million USD. That is unreal but we realized that we are in the most expensive city in the world and in the nicest part of Oslo. So therefore we were probably in the most expensive place to live in the world.
I love you guys and i'll talk to you soon!
Eldste Godfrey
