June 4, 2012

Kjære Familie,

How y'all doin?  It has been another fantastic week here in Oslo.  The weather has been a little colder but still really nice (short sleeve weather).  Well i got really good news this week... last Monday we met with A and we got a baptismal date with him for June 9th.  He is one of the most positive people I've taught.  He came to church again this week and had an interview with the Bishop so he will be getting baptized this Saturday.  I'm way excited!  A is from Cameroon in Africa and has lived here for about two years.  He had been taught a couple of lessons before we got here but disappeared.  Eldste Johnson and I picked him back up and have been teaching him.  He is a way cool man who has a very strong faith in Christ.  Every time we teach him he bares his testimony about how he knows what we just taught him is true.  It has been a big miracle!

We had two other dates for June 9th with A and A but there going to be moved back.  Eldste Johnson and I got put into a good area and it will be important that we keep up the good work so that many baptisms will follow.  There are a lot of immigrants here in Oslo and sometimes it can be hard to understand people ha ha.  A lot of the immigrants speak little Norwegian and no English.

We went to a member dinner on Tuesday with the Andersen's.  The mother is from Provo and the father is from Norway and they have three small kids.  They invited over a less active from Mexico.  He was a way cool guy who has lived in Norway for a while now.  He was a big time surfer in Mexico and now he is a lifeguard here in Norway.  His mother was visiting from Mexico so she also came to the dinner.  He was baptized here in Norway not to long ago and come to find out his mother lives next door to the LDS missionaries in Mexico ha ha.  What a small world!  Before he came to Norway he has a pretty crazy past.  He crossed the border illegally to the USA several years and made it and never got caught.  He decided that is wasn't a good way to live his life so he went back to Mexico.  He told us a little about his experience crossing the border with people shooting at him and stuff.  It was intense!

Well later in the week we got a phone call from the APs saying they had an appointment in Oslo to go to church with this kid.  They couldn't make it so they asked if we could go so we met up with this kid and went to church with him. It was awesome!  They had a Christan rock concert at the beginning and then they had a speaker.  It was like a really good fireside and i was pretty impressed.  There were about 200 youth there and we definitely stood out with our white shirts and ties ha ha.  After the meeting we went down to the train station to look at the times when the train leaves.  We met this kid  outside the train station that was at the church meeting.  He recognized us and we started talking with him.  We ended up talking with him for an hour and a half.  He is from Mandal and knows Andrè a previous investigator i had Kristiansand.

He is a way cool kid but didn't want to take a book of Mormon or any material we had.  We kept talking with him and he finally took a pamphlet about the restoration.  He invited us to his church on Sunday night and we knew this was the only way we would be able to get in contact with him again so we told him we would go.  It was another really good experience on Sunday and they had a little concert at the beginning again.  I think its great with what they are doing with these youth churches.  Pretty much everything they taught we agree with but they are just missing some of the truth that we have.  I get so happy when people just believe in God here in Norway ha ha.

After the meeting we were attacked ha ha.  They know how to fellowship in that church.  We were so popular and everyone wanted to talk to us afterwards.  We had a group following us around just wanting to talk ha ha it was awesome.  Before we left they gave us refreshments which was a really good berry pie and whip cream.  We got an appointment with K today too so everything was worth it.  I'm telling you this is the way to find people is going to other peoples churches.  Now anytime we see any of those people at either of churches we went to we will be able to teach them.  We are looking for the youth to teach anyways.  It was a lot fun and i have really enjoyed this week.

On Saturday Eldste Johnson and I took a train down to Tønsberg for a district meeting.  We gave a short presentation on goals but we mostly just watched and listened.  It was an excellent way to really find out the needs of that District and I really look forward to doing it again.  We ate lunch with them afterwards so it was also a really good way to build a good relationship with the missionaries in our zone.

I know our church is true and visiting those other churches just strengthened my testimony.  I know that God lives and that as we live the commandments he will be with us every step of the way back to our Eternal Heavenly Father.  I love you and I'll talk to you next week!

Eldste Godfrey
