This has been a crazy week! Transfers happened on Wednesday and my new companion is Eldste Bolt. President Johansen did a last minute change so i didn't get Eldste Mathews. Eldste Bolt is from Georgia and played on the golf team for his high school and also worked at the golf course as a cart kid. He was zone leader in Stavanger and now is the District leader in Kristiansand. We get along very well and we are going to have a great transfer together. I've worked hard with Elder Bolt. It has been very hard this week with finding people. I'm working harder but were not finding any success. It seems like a lot bad things are happening so i know that Satan is trying to discourage us. Through these hard times on a mission is where I'm going to grow the most. I know if i never give up and just keep working hard the Lord will bless us. Yesterday after a dinner appointment with some members we went contacting in the city. I forgot to lock the doors and someone broke into our car. They stole Elder Bolts camera with all his pictures on it as well as my camera and our tom-tom gps. I'm going to be extra careful locking the car now. The scary thing is the car has an automatic locking system after five minutes which means the person that broke into our car most likely saw us get out of it. So i guess i go buy another camera. It's been kind of a hard week but i need to forget about it and move on. I don't have my Norwegian licence yet and hopefully I'll be taking the driving test in about two months. I drive a BMW for the test which is kinda of cool. That is way cool that BYU won i hope they do good this year. You got to keep me updated with all the sports in the states (rankings, scores, ect.) That is cool that dad was called in as the Executive Secretary to the Bishop. I could have guessed that line up haha. I'm glad things are going well for all of you. The key to build a strong family and strong members in the church is, Family home evening, family prayer, and family scripture study. The scriptures are amazing so i have a challenge for all of you. Next time you have scripture study just don't read but really dig into what they are talking about and relate it to everyday life. I promise if you do this scripture study will be something you look forward to. There are so many good stories in there. Jake needs to tell me all of his scores. It sounds like he hasn't wanted to do anything but golf since I've left ha.
Some good news is that i will be flying to Oslo on Thursday night and I'll come to Kristiansand on Friday night. Elder Bolt has a meeting there and i will be on splits with Elder Levine in Rommerike. The week after that I'll be taking a four hour train ride to Stavanger for district conference. It will be cool to see some other places around Norway.
We met with Joseph today again and he told us about the split offs of the church and some other really interesting things about our church. I still can't believe how much he knows. He is so smart, he has studied everything. I got into a little argument with a Jehovah Witness this last week in the city. They believe that Adam and Eve will never be forgiven and that God never has a plan for his children. Next time that happens i need to just walk away and that isn't the first time I've talked with a Jehovah Witness. They get very frustrated when i prove them wrong through scripture but it's not worth my time until they open their hearts and want to learn about the truth.
This week I've been studying scriptures from the bible and the book of mormon that support each other. In Matt. 3:14-15 it talks about Jesus Christ example to be baptized to fulfill all righteousness. We can find out what it means to fulfill all righteousness in the Book of Mormon in 2 Nephi 31:5-9. It talks about how Christ even though he was holy was baptized to set the example and that He would be obedient and keep the commandments of the Father. I was also reading in 2 Nephi 28 and it was amazing how much the Book of Mormon teaches about our generation today. In this chapter it talks about people saying i have the word of God and i need no more scripture. Many things in this chapter is what people tell us on the street everyday.
Investigators:
We are still meeting with Christina frequently and teaching her more about the gospel. It has been very hard because of the language barrier and we are going to try and teach her with members there every time that know Spanish. She is praying and reading the Book of Mormon but her only hold up is she doesn't think the Book of Mormon is true. I don't think she actually prayed to know if its true so we are going to work with her this week clarifying the Book of Mormon. Christopher who we had a baptismal date in Oct. just packed up his stuff and moved to Germany. Little notice there so hopefully the missionaries will teach him in Germany. Ida is a new investigator this week that we taught for the first time. She is an 18 yr old Norwegian that i met at the grocery store. I'm hoping she will turn out to be very positive. The lesson with her went great and we are going to be meeting with her again this week. Bente has a lot of questions about the church and in religion in general. She doesn't want to pray so this week were going to focus on getting her to pray. Please pray for these investigators and also pray for missionary work in Norway and the whole world. It has been very hard to find any positive investigators. We have a lot planned for this week and i know that we will find some people that are ready to accept the gospel.
I love you all and i hope you all have a good week and you will have to try a shorter recording next week. I miss you all very much and thanks for the package with the cds and candy. I'm glad that whoever broke into our car didn't take the cds and I'm also very glad that I've been sending some pictures home.
Eldste Godfrey
